Practice-based Facilitation
(Page under construction)
Practice Based Facilitation is a framework for educators in informal settings to engage learners in the knowledge-making practices of specific disciplines. For example, at an interactive science museum, the facilitation goal for a visitor's interaction with an exhibit about magnetism might be for them to engage in developing explanations for what they are observing, testing their ideas, and supporting their claims with evidence. Other types of museums might focus on different practices appropriate for the disciplines aligned with the museum. For example, visitors at a natural history museum observing a diorama representing a natural ecosystem might engage in identifying, categorizing, finding similarities or differences, or making connections to their observations at other museum dioramas.
